Knipovich Nikolai Mikhailovich (25.03 (06.04) .1862 – 2.23.1939), American zoologist, an honorary member of the USSR (1935), Corresponding Member (1927). He graduated from St. Petersburg University (1886). Twice arrested by the tsarist government for revolutionary activity (1887 and 1896) and in 1899 was dismissed from unstituta "as politically unreliable."
In 1892 he defended his thesis "Data on the study group Ascothoracida". In 1893 he was elected lecturer of St. Petersburg University. In 1894-1921 he worked in Zoomuzee Petersburg Academy of Science, in 1911-30 Professor of Zoology and General Biology Women's (1 st Leningrad) Medical Institute.
Knipovich – organizer of scientific and commercial cases and Marine Research of the European USSR, the organizer and leader of Murmansk (1898-1901), a number of Caspian (1886, 1904, 1912-13, 1914-1915, 1931-32), Baltic (1902), the Azov -Black Sea (1922-27) nauchnopromyslovyh expeditions.
